The Village of Lockland is seeking professional candidates with a demonstrated commitment to public service for the position of Police Chief.
Salary: $75,953.33 per year
Salary is negotiable based on years of experience and education.
Summary: Responsible for overseeing the operations of the Police Department as well as its personnel. Plan, direct and cording the enforcement of laws and ordinances and the protection of life and property in the Village of Lockland.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Develop and communicate department policies and procedures, prepare annual budget, and operating the department within its limits; develop, communicate, and enforce regulations governing the conduct of police officers; make personnel assignments; develop and install new techniques for rending police service.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise the department personnel through the police sergeants who report directly to him/her; investigate and act when personnel problems occur and make recommendations to the mayor in serious cases. Make recommendations for the appointment and promotion of police officers; assure that officers receive sufficient appropriate training in methods and procedures.
Make reports to the mayor; meet with citizen groups and the public relative to police operations that affect them; attend meetings and seminars helpful in keeping up to date on new methods, legislation, court decisions and other developments of concern to police officials.
Work with other police departments to develop and implement mutual aid; meet with State and Federal officials, when necessary, on matter involving available funding for special projects and other matters.
Oversee the maintenance of police records; purchase supplies and equipment for the department; oversee and maintenance of personnel and payroll records; personally, direct the investigation of major criminal offense; be available to assist other Village departments in the absence of the Village Administrator.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations: Must have Ohio Peace Officer’s certificate in a computer operation for the Regional Crime Information Center. Must be an experienced police officer with at least three years in a supervisory rank, with good knowledge of modern police techniques and criminal investigation method. Supervisory and managerial skills required. Must have a valid Ohio Driver’s license; must hold an OPOTA certification.
Physical Demands: Must be in good physical condition, as the Chief may at any time be involved in a physical confrontation with a suspect, or to perform any other strenuous police duty.
Work Environment: The work environment is mostly indoors, but while performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to outside weather. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
